We do not to use break-away clasps on our nursing necklaces. Apart from defeating the object of a nursing necklace (babies have a tendency to pull and play with these) customer experiences show that they pop open too often making them irritating to keep putting back on, plus they are prone to wear and tear (becoming even looser over time) and even run the risk of falling apart at the clasp. Other sellers claim that the knot is the weakest point. This not true. Cleaning your Nursing Necklace
Lait d'amour Nursing Necklaces are 100% waterproof and therefore can be sterilized.
Wiping the beads with baby wipes is also very effective.
